A Family Run Business

The early 1990s heralded the beginning of the Community Care Act, our founder and Registered Manager Stella Baxter was already working alongside a large number of local authorities providing care at home services to those local authorities who outsourced their in house home care provision to independent providers. Over the next nine years as a senior manager for BUPA care services Stella would manage many thousands of hours homecare to people residing in many locations nationwide including Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, North and South Birmingham, Bristol and Cheltenham. Stella still believes today that, given choice, home is where most people prefer to be cared for.

As an organisation we believe that care services must be compassionate, person centered, as well as efficient, and are consistently striving to achieve this and exceed standards.

Very much a family affair, the company now employs both of Stella's daughters working in senior positions as the Office Manager and the Recruitment Manager, understanding the absolute importance good selection of staff that provides care workers through to the training stage of the recruitment process. Sadly we know from evidence that all too often potential care workers arrive at Athena Care having completed little good quality training. During previous inspections our training centre and the quality of our training was praised by both the Care Quality Commission and the local Clinical Commissioning Groups.

We have over 16 years experience providing care at home across the whole of the UK, a track record which speaks for itself and includes many awards, of which we are proud. However our greatest achievement by far was to encourage our two Experts by Experience to join the board of Directors - a bold move and one that remains unique today.

When you look for a Care Company you need to have trust and confidence that they will engage with you to care for you or your loved one and that they will be passionate about getting things right, capturing how the individual would like their care to take place and incorporating their preferences into care plans and risk assessments. Now one of the largest providers of UK live-in care in the home, our mission remains as always to provide high quality care to those who use our services whether that is for respite or a permanent arrangement.

Since 2001, we have seen the business steadily grow to provide services to people who live in all parts of the UK.

Our Staff

Our care workers are carefully selected and vetted following the receipt of satisfactory DBS Enhanced Disclosure checks on the Adult (PoVA) and Child Protection (PoCA) registers, suitable references and other employment legislation such as Asylum and Immigration.

You can be confident your care worker has completed the 'Care Certificate' induction training and are verified as competent through observation and the shadowing passport. Care workers would hold the appropriate qualifications and experience of working with a particular service user group. All social care workers are either NVQ Health & Social Care Level 2/3 qualified or are working towards the awards. We hold regular clinical skills training days delivered by our RGN's that includes tasks such as nebulisers, eye drops and PEG feeding so our workers may assist with these tasks as required.
